Safety both in and around the home is incredibly important, which is why patio awnings always come supplied with a CE marking.
Patio awnings can be purchased in many different sizes. They can be tailor-made for you. These sizes can differ significantly. Some people would like a patio awning with an enormous width and coverage, but with as few supports as possible. We are often able to satisfy the consumer’s wishes. Some roofs are therefore equipped with very strong profiles. But as these roofs aren’t always used for large dimensions, the CE marking was created for all parts of a load-bearing steel construction. After all, safety always comes first!
Why the CE marking?
It has been compulsory for all parts of a load-bearing steel construction to have a CE marking in accordance with NEN-EN 1090 since 1st July 2014. A construction project may no longer be launched without bearing this CE marking. The CE marking is a European product information label which indicates that the properties of the product in question have been tested in line with European standardised methods. The CE marking should therefore be seen as a very important criterion.
Testing by the FPC is required before a CE declaration can be drawn up by the manufacturer. This certification of the manufacturing process may only be carried out by an appointed institution like TÜV Netherlands. FPC is a system in the form of a handbook for a manufacturer’s production process manual. This is done with the aid of documented procedures, a system for guaranteeing the safety of the product, requirements and provisions in accordance with the requirements stated in the standard. The aim is to create effective production control and a final product which complies with the required and requested characteristics.
A very important criterion
It’s absolutely crucial for you to always enquire whether a product has a CE marking during your search for a patio awning. It’s unfortunately all too common for suppliers to experiment with enormous widths, creating a huge coverage, at very low prices. Of course this sounds very attractive, but a large coverage like this can only be realised in combination with a stronger roof. A roof with strong profiles and cheap is really an impossible combination.
People will often assume a patio awning will have a CE marking as standard. This is unfortunately not the case at all. That’s why we would always recommend asking the supplier whether the patio awning comes with a CE marking.
